You need to play with strategy and out beat your opponent’s thinking in order to win. There is a lot of bluffing and deception involved in poker. You need to toy with your opponent’s psyche and make him fold even when his hand is better than yours. This is why poker is very popular in casinos worldwide. There are several types of poker games; here are a few popular types of poker normally played in casinos:

? Texas Holdem

? Caribbean Stud

Out of these, the Caribbean Stud is played with a dealer and not with opponents like the other poker games. This type of poker is straightforward, as there is no bluffing or deception involved.

To begin playing Caribbean Stud poker you need to place your initial bet, or ante, in the specified place at the table. Once all the players finish placing their antes in their respective specified places the dealer distributes five cards to each player and to himself. All the cards are dealt face down. At this point in Caribbean Stud you are allowed to view your cards without showing it to the other players, and you have an option to either play or fold. If you are confident that you have a strong hand and if you choose to play, you need to place twice the amount of your initial bet, in the specified place. If you choose to fold, you lose your ante, and the game continues with the remaining players. Payout is based on the strength of the hand of each player. Once the dealer reveals his hole cards he compares it with the players’ cards, one at a time, from right to left. A player having the strongest hand wins and the remaining players lose both their ante and their bets. A lot of people assume that their hand is strong, or simply depend on their luck, and bet without analyzing their card strength, losing a lot of money in the process.

Tip: Observe the reactions of other players carefully when they view their cards as it can give you some helpful clues about their card strengths.

Like all poker games, the Caribbean Stud too has strict rules that you must follow:

? Each player is allowed just one hand to play. You cannot play and bet on multiple hands.

? Once the dealer starts to deal the cards you are not allowed to talk to other players or look at their cards.

? After you examine your cards and put it face down on the table to indicate that you are folding, you are not allowed to touch it again.

? You are not allowed to place any more bets after the dealer announces No More Bets.

The first part of the game is known colloquially as the ante phase and it is simply the phase that all casino table games tend to have. Progressive Phase

The dealer must have A-K high or better in order for their hand to qualify and if this does not happen the hand ends immediately, with the players each having their ante bet paid and their call bet pushed. If the dealer’s hand does indeed qualify, then the hands are compared to see which players beat the dealer and get their call and ante bets paid.

The player plays with a single deck of 52 cards against the dealer. A player wins when he has a higher 5-card poker hand than the dealers.

• When the player raises and the dealer doesn’t qualify.

• The player shows a higher 5-card poker hand and eth dealer manages to have a minimum of an Ace/King.

• The Progressive- the player places 41 in eth slot and receives a flush or higher.

There can be only five hands to qualify for the Progressive Jackpot:

• Flush - any five cards of one suit.

• Full House - 3 of a Kind with a Pair.

• 4 of a Kind - any hand of four like cards.

• Straight Flush - Five consecutive cards of the same suit in a row.

• Royal Flush - 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace of the same suit.

The player loses when:

He folds or the dealer qualifies with a higher 5-card poker hand.

Caribbean Stud Poker Rules

All the games we have looked so far involved betting against other players. But this game is different; here everyone plays against the casino or room which acts as a bank (dealer), paying out all winning bets. To win you have to beat the dealer’s hand, other player’s hands don’t make a difference.

First each player makes an ante (initial blind bet) and is dealt 5 cards face down. The dealer receives 4 cards face down and 1 card face up. Now each player decides whether to fold or play by looking at their cards, if they fold then their ante is lost but if they continue, they have to double their ante-bet.

Now the dealer reveals his hand, but he must have an A-k or higher in order to play his hand, if not the player is paid even money on the ante and also the additional bet is not lost (See the table for odds). If the player’s hand beats the dealer’s, the ante is paid at evens. However, if the dealer’s hand beats the player’s hand then both bets are lost.

Additional Bet Payout odds:

One pair or High card —> 1/1 (Even) Two pair —> 2/1

Three of a kind —> 3/1 Straight —> 4/1

Flush —> 5/1

Full House —> 7/1

Four of a kind —> 20/1

Straight flush —> 50/1

Royal flush —> 100/1

If the dealer and player play the same poker hand, then remaining cards are taken in to consideration. If all five cards are equal, the hand is void. Neither the ante nor the additional bet is lost. The ranking of suits makes no difference to the hand.

Here the odds are poor; a normal game of poker with seven players will have odds of at least 6/1 which is a great deal better when compared to the minimum odds in this game which is 1/1. Also the odds paid for additional bet are poor. Again there is no skill required and you rely too much on luck. Finally remember you have much better odds of winning money when you are playing for the pot.
