I’m from the caribbean and I have decided to become a rottie breeder, after being intrested in breeding for a couple years I’ve decided to proceed..I still have alot to learn. My 2 1/2 year old bi**h was tested recently and was also proven in the ring about 2 months ago..she was on her 11th day of her heat yesterday and had an AI ( we opted for the AI because of time and environmental factors and constraints) the stud is a young local champion..I was told by the vet on Saturday after she had taken a smear that yesterday would have been the ideal day to breed her…but the vet that did the AI told me that she could’nt know for sure and he advised me to get a teaser male and see if she would stand and accept him on Wednesday and if she did he said to bring her for another AI the same day to be sure…My questions are..1) would the smear that the 1st vet took be accurate?…and 2) should I really carry her for another AI on Wednesday if she is still willing to accept a male?

ask the vet
Yes to both questions, but a word of advice on a “teaser” male. You must be very careful! If both parties are willing, you could end up with an accidental breeding. I would put b**ch panties on your girl before introducing the “teaser”.
You should be asking the vet and your mentors these questions.
i dont trust the smears at all… to many misses or 1-2 pup litters.. i ALWAYS trust nature. if a female i standing shes receptive and then AI’s produce full litters.. this is my experiance
I really think you should find a breeding mentor FIRST and ask them questions.
This is a serious thing, not to be taken lightly!!!
You’ve posted several questions, and Y!A is NOT the place to find breding info.
As you stated in your post, the female is just coming into “Heat” I’ll tell you, it takes 2 weeks for them to come into heat and took weeks to get out of heat… one that 7th day the male dog will breed her.. Its not something that you can force them into doing, its a dog thing, just put them together and let them be.. I have a couple of dogs that don’t like to be watched and then I have another dog that could care less.. GOOD LUCK
Hi
Wording was a bit confusing, but if I got it right, the 1st Vet did a smear on Sat., & said Sun. would be the best day. This would have to be a guess, based on experience. The only way to know for sure would be a test on Sun.
As far as standing for a teaser male, we forego that process, and simply A.I. on day 11, 13, & 15. We were given this info from a well established breeder, and it has worked every time for us. We found a Vet to instruct us on the proper way to A.I., and do it ourselves, as we do not have a Vet close that does this procedure. We do Vaginal deposit, and I’m not sure sure which method you chose, so I’m including an article that may be helpful.
Best of luck.
