Vet vaginal smear for my rottie to get best breeding time?

I’m from the caribbean and it’s the 1st time I’m going into breeding rotties I have a 2 year old b**tch of champion lineage that has been tested and also has proven worthy in the ring,I’m breeding her with a young stud that is a local champion …anyway I digress…I was told by a friend that a vaginal smear test done by a vet is the best way to let me know exactly when to breed her…she has been in heat for 10 days now..I’m on my way to the vet right now…is this smear thing accurate?

   i’ve heard it OK but many people just do it during randomly.

   The best time to breed a b**tch is usually when they are 12 to 14 days in heat.

   A female dogs estrus cycle

   Proestrus- the dog starts bleeding from the ***** and develops progressive swelling to the uterus last 5-9 days on average. Ovulation usually occurs towards the end of proestrus. The female becomes attractive to the male.
   Estrus- the bleeding diminishes but the ***** remains swollen; the dog is receptive to males at this time. Two days after ovulation the eggs can be fertilized by *****. Estrus on average lasts 6-12 days.
   Diestrus- the dog comes out of heat and the ***** begins to return to normal. If the dog becomes pregnant, the egg implant at this time and pregnancy begin

   Your female will stand for breeding when she is ready. It is called a standing heat. During the first part of her heat cycle she will not allow a male to mount her. During the middle of her heat cycle she will stand to be bred, she will slide her tail to the side & stand still while being mounted. After the middle of her heat most females will not allow a mount.

   Some breeders even use a teaser dog to see if the female is ready for a mount. If she is ready they introduce the male & leave them together for a few days to make sure she is impregnated.
