What poker variations do you play?

Right now, Texas Hold Em is arguably the most popular form of poker, and I believe Omaha, 7 card stud and 5 card draw are still played quite often. Do you play any other variation of poker? If so, what do you play and what do you like about it?

I have played a variation called “Anaconda”, which is a form of 7 card draw. Each player is dealt 7 cards. One round of betting takes place, and then each player must PASS 3 of his cards to his right. This means if you were dealt a straight, a flush or a full house, your hand just got screwed. After the pass, another round of betting, and then you pass 2 cards. Then another round, pass 1 card, another round and the show down. It’s interesting to get, say, 3, 3, 7, 7, A, K, 10 because in that situation, you have two pair, but to keep it you’d be forced to pass 3 high cards to your opponent.

Of course I like Texas Hold’em. I enjoy Omaha, 7 card stud as well. 5 card draw I like to play but since Texas Hold is the game right now none of my friends will play it.

The one game I really like to play right now and I am still learning it is Razz. It’s simple in that low hand wins but there is so much more in to it. I am still getting used to it and it is kind of frustrating but it is fun at the same time.

I have played a game called criss-cross. You get 4 cards in your hand and you set up a cross of 5. You turn the cards like a regular game and you turn the middle card last. It is then the wild card so it can be what ever you want and if you have that same number card in your hand it is wild also. You make your hand out of the three vertical or three horizontal along with two cards from your hand. It is fun with a lot of betting

I’ve been playing more and more Omaha hi/lo split. Great game. I play mostly limit, but I also play some pot limit.

Badugi is another game I play. It’s a 4 card triple draw game where your goal is to get the lowest hand with each card being of a different suit. So, the best hand is A234 of all different suits.

Chinese poker is another popular game. You get 13 cards, and must make 3 hands, each strong than the other. Your first hand is made up of 3 cards, your second hand is made up of 5 cards and your final hand is 5 cards.

i am willing to play all forms of poker, not that anyone i play with is willing to do the same though

obviously, there is hold’em, whether no-limit, pot-limit, or limit, all of which have differing strategies

then there is omaha, which is a game of drawing, you really need to push your big draws in this game because you will often have the best hand, and sometimes significantly…also, there is omaha hi/lo, which is a game of starting hands since many people play far too many

stud hi is a game of making good laydowns, you really need to track upcards and find when you aren’t as likely to draw out, and you also have to realize when you’re beat and try not to pay off, even though the price will be very good…stud hi/lo is about pushing small advantages and knowing where your opponent stands so you know when you do have the edge…razz is a simple game but very frustrating because you are very unlikely to be a big favorite and you will lose with the best hand more often

the draw variations that are played now are interesting…2-7 and A-5 triple draw lowball are also games of understanding what cards might be dead, and also of pushing your edges especially when drawing to a hand, since it could give you a chance to run a bluff later…in 2-7 single draw NL it’s all about your starting hand

this is why it’s such a shame that no-limit hold’em is taking over, because all these great alternatives are being neglected by the general public
