Vegas advice for a newbie?

Caribbean Stud
Joey Starr asked:

Wife and I are going on a trip to Vegas starting May 19. Gonna be there 5 days. I like to play Caribbean Stud poker and Blackjack. Are there any casinos that still have $5.00 minimun for these games? If s, which ones and at what times of the day or night? Any other ideas on how to do Vegas cheap would be appreciated. We’re taking money but would I would like to save some of it if I can.

I went to Vegas and there is one thing that I did that I still remember to this day.

One morning, around 6 a.m., I took a run. I ran up and down the Vegas strip and just took in the sights. It was SOOOO different than seeing it crowded during the nights..crisp, clean and it was literally like running through different countries as you move from casino to casino. You get to take in the entire atmosphere and decor without a thousand bodies pushing and blocking the view.

That memory has stayed with me for over a decade..and I recommend it to all my friends..it is truely an amazing sight. Just start at your hotel and walk/run to one end of the strip, then back down the other side to the other end..lastly, across the street and back to your hotel..

    you won’t be disappointed.

There is a place on the strip between the Venetian and Palazo called Casino Royal. They have the lowest limits on the Strip. You may also find some at Circus-Circus but that is a long walk. You are likely to find them at any time. Forget $5 minimums at any of the other Hotels.

Downtown the Western or El Cortez have low limits.

Eat breakfast at the Paris Buffet. It is fantastic. Eat lots of food and you won’t have to eat again until dinner time. You can eat at any dollar level you wish for McDonald’s to Delmonicos. From a few bucks to hundreds of dollars. If you like video poker at the quarter level and you like to drink, I recommend using the video machines at the bar in a casino. The drinks are free as long as you play. The same is true anywhere you play in the casino but the service is fastest if you sit right at the bar.

Plenty to look at and explore. Look on line for discount coupons. If you want to see a show check out tickets2nite. They have discounted same day left over tickets.

Ignore the creepy people trying to hand out little cards. During the day they are hawking time-shares and at night they are hawking escort services.

Cheapest table rates are weekdays, morning & early afternoon. On the Strip, Imperial Palace is centrally located & cheap (although older), but most casinos I’ve been to have $5 tables before the evening rush. Sign up for players clubs at the casinos to get discounts. Downtown the tables are less expensive all day, but sometimes don’t have as good payout rates.
If you’re not renting a car, book in advance your transportation to & from the airport. This can be done online or through a travel agent, however you arranged this trip.
Don’t miss the free fountain shows in front of the Bellagio, especially after dark. Also, free shows are in front of the Mirage (volcano), Treasure Island (pirates), inside MGM (lions), and the Fremont Street Experience downtown.

Best of luck to you, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it

    Check out

$5 tables on Strip are limited and usually easier to find before 6:00 p.m. For lower rates, I would suggest Circus Circus, Sahara, Tropicana, and Imperial Palace.

    look for and use coupons

check the airport, your hotel lobby

    join the casino’s players club.

you’ll usually get free spin and match play coupons along with free or buy one get one free meals.

always show your card when your at a table and get rated.
you can earn free food or even rooms if you gamble a lot and long enough.

    try going at odd hours

tip your waitress for drinks, you’ll get them more often and it never hurts.
